Overshadowed

"The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God." ~Luke 1:35

Can you see the lovely girl
alone in the dark of night?
Fear dwells in her heart
right beside an openness
to His holy will.

The reassuring words come softly
"do not be afraid, you have found favor with God"
She is calmed and the question comes-
"Will you?"
She responds with a fiat
and is overshadowed
by the gentle Spirit of Love.

A mysterious presence
covers her,
enters within her,
and she falls to her knees
in awe and wonder
and joy.

She is overshadowed
and because of her
we will never be the same.
Her yes to His Spirit
has brought glory to our lives,
glory to His name,
glory to forever after.

O Blessed overshadowing
that changed the world for all time
that brought the Prince of Peace
to our hearts and redemption
to our souls,
overshadow us as well!

O Blessed overshadowing
we also say "yes".
Overshadow us all
and fill humanity
with the birth of Your Son
in our hearts!

Like our beautiful mother
before us
we long to be
overshadowed!

  1. I absolutely LOVE this. I thought it was a quote from the Reed book but it was you, our very own Annie. Yes, more overshadowing of us all, especially during Advent so we can rejoice, like Mary, in God, Our Savior.
