spilled ink

words spoken to the wind
floating high with the gulls
are never to be retrieved
they're gone forever

but words in ink
on those we can linger
holding them in our hands
close to the heart

what does it matter
that changes come
it happens all the time
yesterday cannot be re-lived

but memories are like ink words
permanently fixed in the mind
mulled upon and mused over
until they become who we are

spill the bottle and soak the paper
ink your world
with cherished memories
that remain forever in the heart

  1. What an amazing poem, and so true! I've read it three times already. I think I'll write it down and post it where I can see it all the time.

  2. Beautiful! It is so true that words, whether spoken aloud or written have the power to bring pain or healing.

    Thank you

  3. So so beautiful.

The written word has carried me through recently - more than spoken words possibly could I think.
