"I say to myself, I will not mention His name, I will speak in His name no more. But then, it becomes like a fire burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones, I grow weary holding it in, I cannot endure it." Jeremiah 20:7-10

Taffy Pull
Creator God,
You are constantly pulling me and stretching me. I see an image of the taffy machine at the State Fair, twisting and turning and pulling the sweet treat until it comes out perfectly tender and soft. In the same way that the taffy machine works with the candy, You work with me. In the end, when You are through pulling and stretching me, I will be sweet and delectable in Your eyes. But until Your work with me is done, I will revel in the delight of Your playful touch. Keep pulling and stretching me, Lord. Make me perfect in Your sight. Amen.
ROFL! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI pray you have a wonderful day with very little pulling and stretching. Perhaps one with rest and quiet.
Linda, thanks for your comment. This is the 2nd time that I have seen the initials ROFL and I have no idea what that means! Before I make another OCD mistake, could you clue me in? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteAnne,
ReplyDeleteI love this analogy! I never quite thought of it that way, but it's true. I will remember the taffy pull during my day today.
Thanks and God Bless!
ROFL, I believe, means Rolling On Floor Laughing.
ReplyDeleteBrings a smile to my face.
Wonderful! At five months pregnant, my belly feels like it is in a taffy machine!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Anne!
ReplyDeleteAnd so joyful in its request :)
I'm joining you in the prayer ...
Thank you Micki and yes ROFL is Roll on floor laughing. But I like yours better as it brings a smile to my face. That it did!
ReplyDeleteYes... we are pulled and stretched at times... but He is so merciful that he never stretches us more than we can handle (or deseve!). I am thankful for his gentle stretches here and taunt pulls there - because one day I know I will be more like Him... Thank God He is not finished with me yet!! I need much (much much much) more manipulating!!! :) Thanks for your delightful example of God's work in us!! ♥x♥x
ReplyDeleteRe: Heidi's comment:
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing a quote attributed to Mother Teresa that went something like this:
God doesn't give us more than we can handle, but sometimes I wish he didn't trust me quite so much.
Sometimes I feel pulled pretty thin, but so far he hasn't misgauged what I can handle!!!
Anne -
ReplyDeleteOh how to be that soft piece of taffy. Being from New Jersey, I love Salt Water Taffy, especially from Atlantic City. Mr dear Aunt Dotty, who went home to God two years ago, would always bring me a box after her vacation. It was so good..
I am now in the stretching machine - soon to be installed as "Acolyte." Then, God willing, I will be ready for diaconal ordination spring 2011. Please pray for me...
God bless you Anne !
Brian, prayers for you definitely! How fabulous that you are preparing for the Diaconate. It is so beautiful to give your life to God in this way and you are a strong witness to your faith and an inspiration to others. I know the preparation is no small task, so thank you for being allowing God to use you in this way!
