Amnesia

he listened, and he heard
he heard my heart speak
its sorrow and its lament
over false accusations

the hurtful words
rang in my head for so long
that I began to believe
that they were true

his voice was soothing
his words kind
"that's not you" he said
"that's not who you are"

he knew me
even when I didn't know myself
he reassured me
when my confidence was ebbing low

and now, I can hold my head up high
I can be sure that who I am
is God's delightful child
whose only desire is to please Him

  1. I think you have yourself quite well pegged. And God does know us so well better than we know ourselves.

I am curious about the title, though. I am missing a connection somewhere...

  4. Thank you all for your comments. Grace, I'm sorry that you suffer from the same amnesia. It's hard when life burdens you with so many cares that you forget who you are, you forget that you are a child of God and that you are loved. It becomes far too easy to believe that you are simply a wicked person or an invisible nobody. My prayers for you that you will soon feel the love of our Father's embrace and remember that He loves you so much and you bring Him joy just by being you!
